What are angels?

Angels are mentioned 273 times in the Bible.  Angels are spiritual beings created by God as the Heavenly part of His family.  They seem to come in many shapes and sizes and types.  The term ‘angel’ is actually a job description… ‘messenger’… but we often confuse the term.

#1 Created by God (Genesis 2:1, Colossians 1:16)

#2 Present when God created the world (Job 38:1-7)

#3 Do not marry (Matthew 22:30)

#4 Wise and intelligent (2 Samuel 14:17, Daniel 9:21-22)

#5 Spiritual beings (Psalm 104:4, Ephesians 3:10, Job 4:15-18)

#6 Are not meant to be worshipped (Revelation 19:10)

#7 Have a will (Isaiah 14:12-14, Jude 1:6)

#8 Not omnipresent, omnipotent or omniscient (Dan 10:12-13, Jude 1:9)

#9 Too numerous to count (Psalm 68:17, Hebrews 12:22)

#10 Created to glorify and worship God the Father and God the Son (Revelation 4:8, Hebrews 1:6)

#11 Can sin (Genesis 6:1-2, 2 Peter 2:1-10; Jude 5-7)

#12 Interact with our physical world (Numbers 22, Luke 22:43)

#13 Represent and Communicate for God (Luke 1, Luke 2)
