MICAH CHAPTER 4: Messianic Age

MICAH CHAPTER 4: MESSIANIC AGE

Micah 4 is a very forward-looking chapter that hints at the coming worldwide Age of the Messiah.

Micah 4 is an Old Testament look at what is mentioned in the Book of Hebrews.  Micah looks forward to the age of Jesus as the Great High Priest and the Intercessor (definitely predicted in Micah 5).  Jesus would come and teach His ways and of God and many nations would respond to Him.  Jesus would be the High Priest that makes peace between all peoples.  Swords will be made into farm equipment because people will be at peace.  Those that come to the Lord (from all nations) will not fight each other, but will be bonded by the Spirit in Christ and will become brothers and sisters.

Micah looks forward and says, “It will be so different around here once the Lord comes.”

Jesus Christ arrived and taught the way, the truth, and the life for people to live.  People will walk the way Jesus describes forever because they believe in Him.  This is a worldwide promise for anyone who believes in Jesus.  The promises to Mother Israel are expanded to the Daughter of Israel… the Church!  The Church comes from Israel and experiences the promises of God fully and completely.  This is a promise for the children of Abraham (of faith not blood) in the generations to come.  Light came and some accepted the light, but not all (John 1).

Verse 10: Rescue

Verse 10: Redeem

Rescue and redemption come from the Lord and these are Messianic themes.  Jesus rescues us from sin and death.  Jesus redeems our souls with His blood.  Jesus is absolutely in mind even as we keep reading in chapter 5.  The ministry of the Messiah was/is all about rescuing those perishing in soul and redeeming trials and sin for the glory of God.  Jesus gathers and harvests (verse 12) all who belong to Him.

All of the gathering/harvest and the promise come in the Age of the Messiah when Jesus arrives.  The Age of Israel (Old Testament time) would come to an end and the new age would be ushered in by the advent of Jesus.  Jesus continues, even today, His work as the Messiah.  He is establishing His Church on the earth amongst us.  At a future time, He will come back and bring it all to fruition.

In the meantime, the Gospel goes out to everyone scattered to the nations.

THE POINT

Look forward to the blessings and promise that the Messiah will bring.  He will bring life from death.  He will be the One who redeems and rescues.  We must then personally join in the sovereign vision of God the Father through Jesus the Son in the power of the Holy Spirit.  We can be part of the harvesting of the nations.
